About the Recipe
As the days grow warmer, it's time to embrace the summer alternative to a hot cuppa - iced tea. Think lazy afternoons spent lounging on the back deck, sipping on a cool, refreshing iced tea, the sound of ice clinking in the glass. The thought of that first sip, with its icy coolness and thirst-quenching taste evokes the essence of an Australian summer. You can even add a little alcohol to it if you like. We love vodka, gin or Cointreau.
This iced tea recipe is easy to make. It's gluten, dairy, caffeine and processed sugar free and your skin and taste buds will thank you for it! The kids can enjoy it too - without the alcohol of course!
Ingredients
9 heaped teaspoons - Purefolk Skin Glow Herbal Tea
8 cups of boiling filtered water
1/2 organic orange - juiced.
1 tspn - grated organic orange rind / peel
6 slices of peeled fresh ginger
Fresh mint and orange slices to serve
Ice to serve
Tools you will need:
There are no hard and fast rules here. You just need something to steep the tea in and then strain into a jug for serving. We use an iced tea jug that has a removeable strainer. If you don't have one, make it an another heatproof vessel like a coffee plunger or saucepan.
Tea strainer (large) or a fine mesh strainer
Heat proof jug - iced tea jug, coffee plunger, teapot or saucepan.
Kettle or saucepan to boil water.
Preparation
Step 1
Add Purefolk Skin Glow Herbal Tea, fresh ginger and grated orange rind to a large tea strainer, teapot or jug to make the iced tea in. Make sure you give the tea a good mix prior to use, as a lot of the smaller flavour packed ingredients will have settled to the bottom of the pack.
Step 2
Next pour / add boiling water to jug/teapot and leave the tea strainer / tea ingredients to steep in there until cooled. This tea wont go bitter if you steep it for a long time. You can refrigerate to speed up the process. Make sure the tea is covered when cooling.
Step 4
Once cooled, remove the tea ingredients by either taking out the tea strainer or straining into a serving jug. Add the orange juice and stir. Serve over ice. TIP: If you really want to impress, make ice cubes out of some of the iced tea to prevent the flavour diluting as the water melts. Just make some extra Skin Glow Herbal Tea, strain, then pour into an ice cube tray for freezing.
You can add fresh orange pieces and mint to the jug or glasses for garnish.
This iced tea can be stored in the fridge for up to 3-4 days as long as all the ingredients have been strained out of the tea and its just liquid.
